Low cost and customized plantar pressure analyzer for foot pressure image in rehabilitation foot clinic

Abstract: Plantar pressure image is generally accepted as an effective tool to analyze a foot pathology and disorder in foot care investigation for a long time. In this research, we propose a preliminary study on the design and construction of low cost and customized plantar pressure analyzer for foot pressure image in a general rehabilitation foot clinic. A single bare foot loading platform is designed to measure a spread of plantar pressure inwhich combined of 72 force sensitive sensor in a form of fix array 6x12 matr… Show more

“…However, according to results of [15], each subject requires a personalized insole. In [2], [7], [8], [11] and [13], pressure mats and pads have been used to assess plantar pressure. The usage of pressure mats is not limited to the context of diabetes but also other applications including postural disorders [8] and post-surgical biomechanical assessment [6].…”

“…the study of the forces between foot and ground during gait or at rest [1]. Gait analysis provides researchers and clinicians with crucial information for posture research [2], detection of gait deviations [3], orthotics design [4], surgery planning, post-operative rehabilitation [5] and diagnosis and evaluation of severity of neurological dysfunctions related to a variety of diseases such as dementia [6], Hansen [8], Parkinson [7], rheumatoid arthritis and peripheral neuropathy [9]. In particular, peripheral neuropathy, i.e.…”

“…However, this equipment is often expensive, which makes its acquisition beyond the reach of research groups and even health care institutions [5]. As such, low cost equipment has been developed that primarily uses resistive sensors [6]- [8]. However, this equipment has a low spatial resolution and its active area is limited to an area not much larger than the foot size.…”
