Low-complexity modified SLM method for PAPR reduction in OFDM systems

Abstract: To overcome the multipath fading effect in wireless communications an efficient multicarrier modulation technique OFDM (Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) is used. The OFDM system has high spectral efficiency and support high data rate wireless transmission without any additional requirement of equalization. So, it is an attractive technology formodern wireless communication systems. One major drawback of OFDM system is high peak -to-average power ratio (PAPR) of transmit signal. There are many methods … Show more

“…Also, the phase factor assignment must be such that the PAPR signal has the lowest possible value 8,31 . In SLM, data samples are multiplied with random phase vectors; each candidate signal has the different PAPR values which are generated from the same OFDM signal and the signal which has the lowest PAPR is selected as for transmitting through channel 32 . The key difference between the PTS and SLM methods is that all subcarriers containing in each subblock are weighed by the same phase factor component in the PTS method.…”

“…The basic idea of PTS is to divide the original OFDM signal into some sub-blocks. Each sub-block is weighted by a given value to obtain many candidate signals with a lower PAPR value [12][13][14]. It is known that PTS is a popular method used to reduce PAPR in OFDM systems.…”
