Looking to the Future of Nasal Drug Delivery–an Interview With Per Gisle Djupesland

Abstract: OptiNose patent families/patent applications, and serves as Chief Scientific Officer of OptiNose AS, with primary responsibility for device discovery and early development efforts. These early development efforts include identifying new product opportunities that use bi-directional technology, advancing the design of devices using the bi-directional technology to treat a variety of medical conditions and conducting Phase I and IIa trials with new 'nose-to-brain' applications for the technology.Dr Djupesland is… Show more

“…In Alchemy Pharmatech's Naltos device, the powder is forced through the nostrils by actuation of an inert gas. Lastly, the Optinose device utilizes the patient's own outbreath, which directs the dose deeply into the nose while concurrently isolating the oral cavity from the nasal cavity [74]. So far, only the Vianase, precision olfactory and Optinose devices have been utilized in human nose to brain investigations.…”

“…3) works by means Nose-to-Brain Delivery of an inert gas that is actuated by the device to propel the powder through the nares (http://wwwalchemypharmatechcom/ indexhtml). Finally, Optinose exploits the patient's own exhalation, which propels the dose deep into the nose while simultaneously isolating the oral cavity from the nasal cavity (Djupesland, 2018). Only the Optinose, Precision Olfactory Delivery, and Vianase devices have been used in human noseto-brain studies to date.…”
