Longitudinal Road Profile Spectrum Approximation by Split Straight Lines

Abstract: The presented study compares three alternative straight-line approximations of the longitudinal road-profile power spectral density (PSD). The one straight line and two and three split straight-line approximations were analyzed. The minimizing of the root-meansquared error (RMSE) was used as criteria of goodness of fit for the approximation models. The statistics of the PSD approximation model parameters, i.e., unevenness index, waviness, break angular spatial frequency, and the standard error of the regressio… Show more

“…Probability density function and other calculations of statistical parameters were made to define the road pavement unevenness. Ap-proximation of three unconnected lines has the closest fitting to measured results and 6÷14% of mean error (Múčka 2012a(Múčka , 2012b.…”

“…In fact, the straight-line fit (in bi-logarithmic plan, see Fig. 1) described in ISO 8608 does not always provide a good representation of the PSD of real road profiles and, for this reason, other fitting approximation, such as two-and threewave bands, has been proposed in the literature [23].…”

“…The BRI is well correlated with bridge dynamic amplification for bending moment due to two-axle truck crossing events. Múčka (2012b) suggested describe the road elevation spectrum by two split straight-lines with different slopes. The similar results for raw-road spectrum approximation were observed by Andrén (2006).…”
