World Health Organization reported that there were more than 700,000 deaths due to suicide each year. Suicide incidents were like stones thrown into calm lakes, causing widespread ripples. Levi-Belz, in his study, stated that each suicide case affected an average of five family members and up to 135 individuals, including partners, colleagues, and the community. Suicide loss survivors were at a higher risk of experiencing complicated grief, depression, and suicide compared to the bereaved due to causes. Stigmatisation of suicide behavior and suicide loss survivors made them reluctant to disclose themselves, leading to less access to the help they needed. This case report described a 51-year-old woman experiencing grief reactions due to her daughter's suicide. She exhibited denial, anger, guilt, and self-blame. Her decision not to disclose her condition to family and relatives forced her to face emotional and mental turmoils on her own. This patient is still in the acute phase of grief reactions and is receiving psychological intervention in an individual setting. The assessment of suicide risk and ongoing observation of persistent psychological symptoms should be conducted periodically.

Nowadays, suicide (especially adolescents’ suicide) has been an increasingly prominent social problem worldwide; suicide ideation, as an important predictor, has been the focus of relevant studies and practices. Against this background, the present study aimed to examine the association between perceived family financial stress and adolescents’ suicidal ideation, as well as the potential roles of depression and parent-child attachment. A sample of 526 junior middle school students was recruited voluntarily to participate in this cross-sectional study, and the results indicated that the prevalence of suicidal ideation among junior high school students was 15.45%; perceived family financial stress was positively associated with suicidal ideation, and depression could significantly mediate this relation; parent–child attachment significantly moderated the mediating effect of depression (in particular, the relation between depression and suicidal ideation); specifically, this relation was stronger among adolescents with lower values of parent–child attachment. These findings could deepen our understanding of the influences of perceived family financial condition and the risky factors of adolescents’ suicidal ideation, which could provide guidance for the prevention and intervention of adolescents’ depression and suicidal ideation.

Au Québec, les personnes âgées entre 50 et 64 ans sont le groupe le plus à risque de suicide. Toutefois, peu d’études se sont intéressées spécifiquement aux impacts du suicide d’un parent de ce groupe d’âge sur leurs enfants. Pourtant, les personnes endeuillées par un suicide familial présentent des risques importants de poser le même geste. L’objectif de la présente étude qualitative est d’identifier ce qui caractérise l’expérience des endeuillés par suicide d’un parent âgé entre 50 et 64 ans. Les participants (n = 14) étaient âgés en moyenne de 23 ans (entre 10 et 34 ans) au moment de la perte. L’analyse thématique des entretiens semi-structurés a révélé 5 thèmes principaux : (1) le choc et la désorganisation; (2) l’adaptation et les changements; (3) la transmission intergénérationnelle du suicide; (4) les défis sociaux; et (5) la perception du vieillissement et l’aide médicale à mourir comme solution. Les résultats soulignent que les participants sont aux prises avec les mêmes enjeux que tous les endeuillés par suicide, mais qu’ils sont préoccupés par la transmission intergénérationnelle du suicide. De plus, il semble que la perception négative du vieillissement soit un thème unique au deuil par suicide d’un parent de ce groupe d’âge. En effet, plusieurs endeuillés envisageraient l’aide médicale à mourir comme solution potentielle aux problèmes de l’avancement en âge.
