Long‐Term Stability of Contour Augmentation With Early Implant Placement Following Single Tooth Extraction in the Esthetic Zone: A Prospective, Cross‐Sectional Study in 41 Patients With a 5‐ to 9‐Year Follow‐Up

Abstract: This prospective cross-sectional study demonstrates stable peri-implant hard and soft tissues for all 41 implants examined and satisfactory esthetic outcomes overall. The follow-up of 5 to 9 years confirmed again that the risk for mucosal recession is low with early implant placement. In addition, contour augmentation with guided bone regeneration was able to establish and maintain a facial bone wall in 95% of patients.

“…In the present study, all of the implants exhibited either a slight bone gain or loss within À0.75 and 0.75 mm. These results are in line with previous studies presenting a frequency analysis of D DIB values (Bornstein et al 2005;Buser et al 2013b;1999). The favorable clinical and radiographic results were also confirmed by the cast analyses.…”

“…As stated in previous studies (Buser et al 2013b;1999), mean DIB values alone are not indicative of the stability of peri-implant bone crest levels, because some implants will lose or gain bone over time. Thus, frequency analyses of D DIB values were calculated between 1-, 3-, and 5-year examinations.…”

“…This, in turn, may support the premise that minimal DBBMC resorption provided space‐maintenance for improved ridge volume (Buser et al. 2013, Testori et al. 2013, Galindo‐Moreno et al.…”

“…More recent nine-year follow-up studies show that bone grafting in the peri-implant defect performed simultaneously with immediate implant placement offers high aesthetic predictability, since in 95% of cases the vestibular cortical bone of fresh sockets remains preserved [33].…”
