“…It should be emphasized that the criteria for cure used in the present report involved the evaluation of both objective and subjective parameters, such as the stress test, the pad-weighing test, and quality of life assessment. With these strict criteria for cure the TVT procedure compares very well in the long term with the most effective traditional and more invasive surgical procedures, such as the fascial slings and the colposuspension operations [15,16]. Approximately one-third of the women in the present trial reported urge symptoms preoperatively.…”

“…Long-term prospective reports on the effectiveness of incontinence surgery are scarcely available. Longer than 10 years of follow-up of the traditional incontinence operations, as fascial slings and colposuspension, have mostly been retrospective with the limitations it imposes on the interpretation of the results [3,4]. The tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) procedure for treatment of female stress incontinence is the first modern minimally invasive midurethra sling operation and the only one thus far with reports on cure rates with follow-up periods of 5 years or more [5,6].…”

“…Four of the 6 patients were treated by releasing the colposuspension suture on the affected side, which, as in this case, did not result in a return to an incontinent state. Feyereisl [7] also described 2 patients in a series of 71 who complained of pain in the groin on the side of the suspension suture, which required intermittent analgesic therapy. Dainer [8] also describes this postoperative pain as a recognized complication of colposuspension, despite receiving scant attention in standard texts.…”
