“…Results from long-term analyses of mesopause region monthly mean winds and tides, besides an annual and semiannual cycle, have shown that the relevant time scales are interannual (Portnyagin et al, 1993a, b) as well as decadal or even interdecadal (D'Yachenko et al, 1986). However, only a few wind time series are long enough to investigate the possible periodicities and most of the long-term results refer to one station only; so it remains unclear whether the results are valid on a global or hemispheric scale.…”
