Long-term outcomes of synthetic transobturator nonabsorbable anterior mesh versus anterior colporrhaphy in symptomatic, advanced pelvic organ prolapse surgery

Abstract: Transobturator synthetic nonabsorbable AVM combined with SSF yielded a favorable and sustainable result over 5 years as compared to traditional AC, both in anatomical and subjective success rate. Mesh related morbidities were low and acceptable.

“…Further analysis has shown no difference in post‐operative DO among SSF and different types of TVM surgery. Our previous study on SSF alone and Perigee with SSF had shown no difference in post‐operative lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) between groups by using UDI‐6 (Urogenital Distress Inventory 6) and IIUQ‐7 (Incontinence Impact Questionnaire‐7) questionnaire . Another study on Perigee system with SSF versus Elevate anterior/apical system alone had shown no difference in post‐op LUTS between groups by using UDI‐6 and IIUQ‐7 questioner as well …”

“…Types of TVM used were Prolift Anterior and Posterior (Prolift T), Perigee System, Elevate Anterior/Apical system (Elevate A), Avaulta Anterior (Avaulta A) system, and Uphold. Details of TVM procedures have been described in other studies . SSF was performed by adopting the right unilateral posterior approach, as described by Miyazaki .…”

“…The long-term follow up of 86 months has shown the important role of transvaginal mesh on vaginal surgery. 11 Single incision mesh kits namely the Elevate Anterior Apical System and the Elevate Posterior System both utilized sacrospinous ligament as the apical fixation point. Studies show excellent objective and subjective prolapse cure rates.…”
