Long-term outcome of laparoscopic Nissen and laparoscopic Toupet fundoplication for gastroesophageal reflux disease: a prospective, randomized trial

Abstract: LN and LT are equally effective in restoring the lower esophageal sphincter function and provide similar long-term control of GERD with no difference in dysphagia. Esophageal dysmotility had no influence on the outcome of either operation.

“…During recent decades, large patient cohorts have undergone laparoscopic fundoplication using all sorts of different techniques. The most common procedures are Nissen fundoplication, Toupet fundoplication, and Dor fundoplication [14][15][16][17]. Nissen fundoplication, the well-investigated and understood technique during this time, also was the preferred operation.…”

“…Laparoscopic antireflux surgery is a standard treatment for GERD [5,6,7]. Theoretically, patients with IEM are exposed to an increased risk of postoperative dysphagia, and partial fundoplication instead of a 360°-Nissen repair has been recommended to avoid this problem [8,9].…”
