Long-term follow-up of a patient cohort with Legg–Calvé–Perthes disease

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to evaluate prognostic risk factors related to a poor radiological outcome. The study consisted of 74 patients with Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease treated using a Thomas splint. The modified Herring lateral pillar classification and the reviewed Stulberg classification system were applied. A significant correlation between the Herring group and Stulberg was found (P=0.03). There was a significant correlation between age at onset of the disease and Stulberg outcome (P=0.05). The Herrin… Show more

“…2004a , 2004b ), there seems to exist only 1 later study that has investigated this association (Froberg et al. 2011 ). Thus, our second aim was to assess the prognostic value of the modified lateral pillar classification and evaluate whether it was a better predictor compared with the Catterall and the original lateral pillar classifications.…”

“…Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease (LCPD) is an idiopathic osteonecrosis of the capital femoral epiphysis in childhood that results in deformity of the proximal femur and acetabulum in 74% to 80% of all cases [10,26]. The proximal femur typically presents with a mushroom-shaped aspherical femoral head, a short femoral neck, and a high-riding greater trochanter [26].…”
