Abstract

Sir, 'Long-term feeding effects of stevioside sweetener on some toxicological parameters of growing rats'The recent publication by Awney et al. (2010) suggesting that oral exposure of growing rats to stevioside produces adverse effects on bone contains a number of technical inaccuracies, as well as inaccurate citations of the literature. These problems fall into two large areas: (1) analytical and sample handing errors; and (2) over-interpretation of results from a nonspecific assay that do not support the authors' conclusions.
