Long-term experiments aimed at improving tillage practices

Abstract: The Crop Production Institute of Szent István University carried out soil quality trials in the region of Gödöllő between 1977 and 2002, followed by similar experiments near the town of Hatvan since 2002. Soil quality factors that can be improved by tillage include the looseness of the root zone, the depth of the loosened layer, the duration of the loosened state, the thickness of the compact layer impeding water transport, the soil structure, the level of surface protection, the water intake/water loss balanc… Show more

“…4). At the beginning of the experiment, the extension of the plough pan was quite slight (10-13 mm) and similarly narrow (3.5 mm), below the edge of the disk tillage [32]. During 2002 no significant differences between tillage treatments were found.…”

“…Research of soil compaction reflects real findings [33], and the methods for preventing or remedying soil compaction have been published by several regional authors [8,9,13,32,34]. Gelybó et al [35] stressed that climate becoming more extreme focuses more attention on methods of prevention and mitigation of tillageinduced compaction.…”

“…A tarlómaradványok -a szerves trágyák szűkössége és a korlátozott alkalmazása miatt -jelenleg a talajok legfontosabb szervesanyag visszapótlási forrásai, ezért nem célszerű a talajok minőségét, klímaérzékenységét befolyásoló szerves anyagot ipari célra, energianyerésre használni (BIRKÁS, 2010).…”

“…Soil and weather conditions during vegetation have a great impact on the grain yield (Bedő, 2003;Liović et al, 2006;Hunyadi Borbely et al, 2007;Birkás, 2010). Therefore, it is important to establish the responses of new sunflower hybrid combinations to different environmental conditions, and to study the genotype × environment interaction (Ebdon and Gauch, 2002;Rao et al, 2002).…”
