Sedentary behavior poses a significant health risk to older adults. The purpose of this scoping review is to summarize key findings from qualitative research (since 2012), with a focus on explaining prevailing research trends and patterns within the field. This review included 25 studies that met the strict inclusion criteria. Five key research themes have emerged: (1) defining and shaping perspectives of sedentary behavior, (2) understanding the dynamics of daily routines and contexts, (3) raising awareness of older adults’ perceived advantages and disadvantages of sedentary behavior, (4) identifying its determinants and discouraging factors, and (5) exploring interventions to promote active behaviors and reduce sedentary behavior. These themes highlight the multifaceted nature of SB and underscore the importance of tailoring interventions to address individual, social, and environmental issues. A comprehensive understanding of SB is critical to developing effective strategies to promote active lifestyles and reduce SB in older adults. Further qualitative research is needed to deepen our understanding and develop targeted interventions and strategies.

The objective of this study is to provide a guide to qualitative research methodology in social sciences. It is the result of the observation that research in Management Sciences in most Universities in Cameroon is still dominated by the quantitative approach supported by economists who handle most research methodology courses. In an environment of oral tradition and the difficulties to have access to data, emphasising purely quantitative research may leave aside many aspects of the environment and several areas of human behaviour that make its specificities. Therefore, there is a need to generalise the use of qualitative research to enable researchers to always have a good insight into phenomena not yet clarified before thinking of any generalisation which is the main objective of quantitative research: this gives room to the contextualisation of research which results can easily be applied in its context, thus, enhancing development.

Background: Relationships with friends have an impact on the physical and psychological health of elderly people. Older people living in nursing homes can have a great opportunity to make broader social networks. Study aims: This study aims to identify people who are involved and the barriers regarding friendships of the resident of nursing homes. Method: The method used in this study is a literature review of existing research on friendship in nursing homes in three scientific article databases including Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Emerald. Result: The studies reviewed were conducted in various countries including Australia, Netherlands, Turkey, United Kingdom, and United States. Friendships that exist in nursing homes do not only occur between fellow residents. The elderly who are living in nursing homes also make friends with caregivers, health workers, daily visitors and their old friend. There are several obstacles for the elderly in nursing homes in making friends including limited physical conditions, dementia, trust issues, age and gender gaps, preferences, and an unfriendly environment. Conclusion: Seniors in nursing homes can make friends with fellow residents, staff, and old friends. However, there are also many elderlies who find it difficult to have close friends in nursing homes.
