Multispecies choruses represent a promising but uninvestigated forum for public information. Although frogs exposed to a potential predator call more readily in the presence of conspecifrc calls than in their absence, none are known to make comparable use of heterospecific calls. To test for heterospecific eavesdropping, we isolated calling male tungara frogs (Physalaemus pustulosus), presented them with a potential predator, and recorded their responses to playbacks of 1 of 4 stimuli: calls of a conspecifrc, a sympatric heterospecific (Leptodactylus labialis), an allopatric congener (Physalaemus enesefae), or silence. We found that males called more in response to the L. labialis call than to either the silent stimulus or the P. enesefae call. In contrast, the P. enesefae call did not result in significantly more calling than the silent stimulus. The conspecifrc call was the most effective at promoting calling. The data indicate that tungara frogs selectively attend to the call of a heterospecific. We hypothesize that such heterospecific eavesdropping contributes to the emergent behavior of mixed-species choruses.

Crested serpent eagle (Spilornis cheela) is a bird of prey with distinctive of uniue vocal. Based on several studies mentioned that there are differences in vocalization at the level of subspecies and is often used to study the role vocalization defining the subspecies in taxonomy. This research aimed to determine the role variation of vocalization pattern in taxonomy on subspecies eagle. The research was conducted from May to September 2017 at Kamojang Eagle Conservation Center. The method used is descriptive method with continuous sampling technique. The samples was an adult eagle from three subspecies serpent eagle. The location of observation determined by purposive sampling with the provisions listening post is less than 5 meters until 30 meters. The data is collected at 7 am to 5 pm. Data were analyzed using sound analysis software. The data taken are fundamental frequency, maximum frequency (MinF), minimum frequency (MinF) and duration. Differences between subspecies were analyzed using Kruskal Wallis and Mann-Whitney U statistical test with SPSS 17.0. The result of the research is The vocalizations can be utilized in the subspecies eagle taxonomy of the species to complement the morphological data, marked by significantly different results on each parameter of vocalization between (Spilornis cheela malayensis) and (Spilornis cheela natunensis). Sebagian besar tersebar dari sub kontinen, termasuk Himalaya, Pakistan, Kashmir, dan Nepal Timur melalui Tibet, China Selatan (Hunnan), dan melalui Indochina, semenanjung Malaysia dan Filipina (Palawan) juga termasuk Indonesia. Dari 26 anak jenis elang-ular, 16 anak jenis diantaranya terdapat di Indonesia dengan mayoritas merupakan satwa endemik (Ferguson, 2001).Elang-ular sering terlihat terbang tinggi dan membuat suara yang khas. Suara yang dihasilkan oleh elang-ular terdengar keras, nyaring dan melengking saat terbang di atas pohon atau saat saling memanggil pasangan (Mackinnon, 2010).

Hyperextended call note repertoire of the endemic Madagascar treefrog Boophis madagascariensis (Rhacophoridae)

Vocalizations of Boophis madagascariensis (Rhacophoridae) males were recorded in a mid-elevation rain forest in eastern Madagascar. Call notes made by males of this species were classi®ed into 28 types. This represents the largest known call repertoire of any amphibian. The calls range widely in spectral characteristics from a narrowband, nearly pure-tone to broadband`rip' notes, to even broader band, pulsatile`iambic' notes consisting of up to 23 pulses. Even considering all`iambic' notes as variants of one type, there remain eight distinct call notes produced by this species. Morphological analysis of the vocal musculature of B. madagascariensis revealed no obvious adaptations for unusual glottal¯exibility or function. Playback studies using a subset of the call notes as stimuli were carried out in the animals' natural habitat to determine the functional signi®cance of several of the call notes. At the lowest playback levels, there was a signi®cant tendency for males to produce rip notes in immediate response to either rip or iambic note stimuli. At the higher playback levels, we identi®ed one sequence of iambic notes that consistently evoked a signi®cant iambic note response from males. A permutation test on call note transitions during spontaneous calling revealed that call note pairs occurred inconsistently and unpredictably. The evolutionary signi®cance of an extended vocal repertoire, matched counter-calling and a random call note production scheme is discussed.
