Long noncoding RNA Z38 promotes cell proliferation and metastasis and inhibits cell apoptosis in human gastric cancer

Abstract: Gastric cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-associated mortality and has a high tendency to metastasize, making it a priority to develop novel diagnostic and treatment methods at the early stages. The present study investigated the role of a newly-discovered long non-coding RNA, Z38, in gastric cancer cell proliferation, metastasis and apoptosis. It was observed that Z38 was upregulated in tissues from patients with gastric cancer as well as in cultured gastric cancer cells. Knockdown of Z38 decrease… Show more

“…CCK-8 assays are conducted to assess cancer cell proliferation abilities, and Transwell and wound healing assays are used to evaluate migration abilities (32)(33)(34)(35). To investigate the observations from the bioinformatics analyses, in vitro cell line experiments were conducted, indicated that USP19 overexpression suppressed proliferation and migration, whereas USP19 knockdown promoted proliferation and migration.…”

“…An increasing number of recent studies have revealed that lncRNAs participate in the progression of GC by regulating metastasis and angiogenesis 11 . The ncRNAs Z38 12 , LINC01606 13 , and SNHG16 regulate cell metastasis in GC. LINC01410 14 , PVT1 15 , and MALAT1 16 contribute to the regulation of vasculogenic mimicry and angiogenesis, which can in turn aggravate GC progression.…”

“…Knockdown of Z38 negatively influences cell proliferative rate together with the induction of apoptosis in gastric cancer in a similar way in breast cancer ( 109 ). Z38 acts through the activation of caspase 3 and 9 to initiate the apoptotic pathway ( 110 ). High expression of Z38 and its oncogenic influence makes it prognostically significant in cases of breast cancer ( 111 ).…”
