Long noncoding RNA SNHG17: a novel molecule in human cancers

Abstract: Many studies in recent years have found that dysregulation of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) can contribute to disease. Small nucleolar RNA host gene 17 (SNHG17) is a novel cancer-related lncRNA of the SNHG family which is highly expressed in various tumors and may exert oncogenic functions. Several studies have demonstrated that SNHG17 is closely related to the proliferation, migration, invasion, apoptosis, and chemical drug resistance of tumor cells, and clinical studies have found an association between hig… Show more

“…There is a category of lncRNAs that are both regulated by MYC and required to sustain MYC-driven cell proliferation. Examples of these long non-coding transcripts are SNHG17 [ 37 ], SNAI3-AS1 [ 68 ], MIR17HG [ 69 ], SNHG26 [ 38 ], SNHG5 [ 70 , 71 ], and numerous others [ 32 ]. All of these also exert a pro-growth effect on the cell.…”

“…Building on these results, we developed a new CRISPRi approach and identified MYC-regulated lncRNAs that are required for cell proliferation in human B cells [ 32 ]. Several of the top candidates of this CRISPRi screen are known for their involvement in cancer including DANCR [ 33 35 ], MIR17HG [ 36 ], SNHG17 [ 37 ] and SNHG26 [ 38 , 39 ]. Here, we have analyzed the function of the transcript ENSG00000254887, referred to as LNROP (long non-coding regulator of POU2F2), which was also identified in the previous CRISPRi screen as indispensable for B cell proliferation.…”

“…Upon to SNHG17, it has been identified as a novel long-coding RNA, referring to oncogenic function in various cancers[ 7 ]. SNHG17 has high expression in many cancer tissues and can be induced by many factors including m6A methyltransferase METTL3 [ 30 ].…”

“…They found SNHG17 is highly overexpression in colorectal cancer, promoted cancer cell proliferation and is an unfavorable prognostic factor [ 6 ]. A recent review summarized SNHG17 is a novel cancer-related lncRNA which is highly overexpression in various cancers exerting oncogenic functions [ 7 ]. SNHG17 is also an EMT-related lncRNA with the evidence that TGF-beta1 activates SNHG17 expression, promoting cancer cells EMT, leading to the facilitation of esophageal squamous cell growth [ 8 ].…”

“…[3][4][5][6] Long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) refers to a class of regulator RNA longer than 200 nucleotides in length without the capacity of encoding proteins. [7] It has been proved that lncRNAs played important roles in the tumor genesis, invasion, and metastasis of human cancers, [8][9][10] including HCC. [11][12][13] Several lncRNAs have been identified to serve as the prognostic indicators for HCC, such as TUG1, [12] LINC01234, [11] and SNHG5.…”
