Long Noncoding RNA MHRT Protects Cardiomyocytes against H2O2-Induced Apoptosis

Abstract: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. The exploration of new biomarkers with high sensitivity and specificity for early diagnosis of AMI therefore becomes one of the primary task. In the current study, we aim to detect whether there is any heart specific long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) releasing into the circulation during AMI, and explore its function in the neonatal rat cardiac myocytes injury induced by H2O2. Our results revealed that the cardiac-specifi… Show more

“…The lncRNA, autophagy promoting factor functioned to regulate autophagic cell death via targeting miR-188-3p and ATG7 [12]. Studies from Zhang et al, suggested that lncRNA, myosin heavy chain associated RNA transcripts (MHRT) is a protective factor for cardiomyocytes and the plasma concentration of MHRT may serve as a biomarker for myocardial infarction diagnosis in acute myocardial infarction [13]. The lncRNA, small nucleolar RNA host gene 1 (SNHG1) is a newly-identified lncRNA and has been found to modulate cancer progression in various types of cancers via different molecular mechanisms, and in vitro studies revealed that SNGH1 increased cell viability and inhibited cell apoptosis in the cancer cells [14][15][16][17].…”

“…These RNAs have also been implicated in the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases owing to the characteristic alterations of their circulating levels with different categories and grades of pathological processes. LncRNAs belong to a newly discovered class of functional mRNA‐like transcripts that lack significant open reading frames or protein‐coding capacity and have emerged as an important player in cardiovascular diseases, including a number of cardiac‐specific or cardiac‐related lncRNAs such as SRA , DIO3OS , SAF , NESPAS , MIAT , NRON , CARL , HCG22 , FENDRR , MHRT , aHIF , ZFAS1 and CDR1AS (http://cmbi.bjmu.edu.cn/lncrnadisease). Recent research data have also suggested the roles of lncRNAs in HF .…”

“…MHRT blood levels were elevated in patients with acute myocardial infarction or heart failure. 18,19 We observed that MHRT expression levels in PBMCs are elevated in hypertensive patients compared to healthy controls.…”
