Long Non-coding RNA ST8SIA6-AS1 Promotes Lung Adenocarcinoma Progression Through Sponging miR-125a-3p

Abstract: Emerging evidence suggests that long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) plays a critical role in human disease progression. Recently, a novel lncRNA ST8SIA6-AS1 was shown as an important driver in various cancer types. Nevertheless, its contribution to lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) remains undocumented. Herein, we found that ST8SIA6-AS1 was frequently overexpressed in LUAD cell lines, tissues, and plasma. Depletion of ST8SIA6-AS1 significantly inhibited LUAD cell proliferation and invasion in vitro and tumor growth in vivo.… Show more

“…ST8Sia6 generates disialic acid structures, eventually by transfer of a sialic acid moiety onto a NeuAca2,3 (6)Gal disaccharide on acceptor substrates, which include glycolipids, but preferentially O-linked glycoproteins (234). Some investigators suggest that ST8SIA6 Antisense RNA 1 (ST8SIA6-AS1) is associated with poor prognosis and enhances the proliferative and metastatic potential of cancer cells (235)(236)(237)(238)(239)(240). Furthermore, ST8Sia6 may increase the chemosensitivity of tumor cells at least to certain drugs (226).…”

“…Some of these are pseudogenes, but the majority are non-protein coding genes—small nuclear RNAs, small nucleolar RNAs or long noncoding RNAs—with the exception being WDR74, a 60S ribosome assembly factor which has been shown to promote lung cancer growth and metastasis ( 69 ). Of the noncoding genes among the top 20, SNORD13 ( 70 ), ST8SIA6-AS1 ( 71 , 72 ) and Y RNA ( 73 ) have been shown to have altered expression in NSCLC or in lung adenocarcinoma specifically.…”

“…It has been reported that lncRNAs exert biological functions in regulating genes that influence tumor cell proliferation, migration, invasion and apoptosis (Chen et al, 2017;Cao et al, 2020;Huang et al, 2020;Zeng et al, 2020). For instance, in bladder cancer, Liu et reported that lncRNA SPRY4-IT1 promote bladder cancer cells proliferation and metastasis (Liu et al, 2017).…”
