Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) HOXB-AS3 promotes cell proliferation and inhibits apoptosis by regulating ADAM9 expression through targeting miR-498-5p in endometrial carcinoma

Abstract: Objective Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) expression is closely related to the pathogenesis and progression of various tumors. In this study, we investigated the mechanisms of lncRNA HOXB cluster antisense RNA 3 (HOXB-AS3), miRNA(miR)-498-5p, and disintegrin and metalloproteinase domain-containing protein 9 (ADAM9) in endometrial carcinoma (EC) cells. Methods The expression levels of lncRNA HOXB-AS3 in EC tissues and cells were detected using RT-qPCR assays. The effects of HOXB-AS3 knockdown on EC cell proliferat… Show more

“…For example, Li et al [ 15 ] demonstrated that lnc-MONC restrains the grade malignancy of endometrial cancer stem cells (ECSCs) and endometrial cancer cells (ECCs) by ordering the miR-636/GLCE axis. Similarly, lncRNA HOXB-AS3 was upregulated in endometrial cancer tissues and cell lines, enhanced cell proliferation, and inhibited apoptosis in EC cells [ 16 ]. Therefore, lncRNAs exhibit a novel potential therapeutic aim for EC.…”

“…In recent studies, aberrant expression of the HOXB-AS3 RNA has been found in liver cancer 47 , 49 , lung cancer 43 , ovarian cancer 41 , 44 , endometrial cancer 42 , 48 , 51 , and acute myeloid leukemia 45 , 46 , 50 . And at the protein expression level, abnormal expression of the HOXB-AS3 micro-peptide has been reported in oral squamous cell carcinoma 52 and colon cancer 40 ( Table 1 ).…”

“…This upregulation enhances tumor cell proliferation while inhibiting apoptosis. Similarly, in endometrial carcinoma (EC) 42 , both cancer tissues and EC cell lines exhibit overexpression of lncRNA HOXB-AS3, and lncRNA HOXB-AS3 correlates with survival rates in EC patients. HOXB-AS3 overexpression could promote EC progression 42 .…”

“…For example, lncRNA HOXB-AS3 inhibits colon cancer (cancer cell colony formation, proliferation, migration, and invasion) through encoding a 53 amino acids (aa) peptide but not lncRNA itself (33). In endometrial carcinoma (EC) cells, this lncRNA binds to the tumorsuppressing miR-598-5p through sequence annealing and downregulates its level, which in turn, leads to enhanced cancer cell proliferation (34).…”
