Long lasting phosphorescence and photostimulated luminescence in Tb-ion-activated reduced calcium aluminate glasses

Abstract: Long lasting phosphorescence (LLP) and photostimulated luminescence (PSL) were found in reduced calcium aluminate glasses activated with Tb3+ ions. The LLP from Tb3+ was observed by illuminating the Tb3+ 4f→5d charge transfer band with ultraviolet (UV) 254 nm light, while the PSL was seen by stimulating the UV-illuminated glasses with 633 nm light. The decay curve of the LLP was fitted with a second-order kinetic for the initial period (0<t<20 min) and a first-order kinetic for the later (t&g… Show more

“…Figure 7 shows decay curves of afterglow nanoparticles at each PEG concentration. Afterglow is caused by the recombination of the trapped carriers [14,[27][28][29][30][31]. For example, trapped holes migrate to the valence band using the thermal energy available at room temperature.…”

“…The slurry method is the most common method, in which phosphor powder is mixed with photosensitive chemicals and is patterned using photolithography techniques. For operating voltages greater than 2 kV, the screen is back coated with a thin layer of aluminium which acts as an optical reflector as well as a charge dissipater [20][21][22]. At operating voltage below 2 kV, the electron penetration depth is so small that the screens are left un-coated [23][24][25].…”

“…Since the afterglow material SrAl 2 O 4 ,Eu,Dy, which does not feature radioactive materials, was discovered in 1996, it has been used in the faces of watches [1]. The afterglow mechanism, which involves the recombination of electrons and holes trapped in shallow energy levels at room temperature, has been extensively studied [1][2][3][4][5][6]. Sr 2 MgSi 2 O 7 :Eu,Dy is known to be a water-insoluble afterglow material [7][8][9].…”
