“…The offsprings born to cypermethrin treated dams received cypermethrin, 10 mg/kg bw, orally for six consecutive days and served as rechallenged group. After sacrifice, brain was immediately removed and processed for isolation of microsomes, tissue lysate and DNA for western blotting and DNA laddering/fragmentation studies as described previously101112131419. The antibodies used in the blotting studies were purchased from Abcam (USA) having ab196495(1:750), ab182733(1:500), ab62465(1:1000), ab2013(1:500), ab90363(1:500) and ab16039 (1:2000) as their product codes and ratios.…”

“…Recent studies from our laboratory has shown that prenatal exposure to low doses of cypermethrin and deltamethrin formulation induces over-expression of CYPs and neurotransmitter receptors and rate limiting enzymes involved in catalyzing specific neurotransmitters during development10111213. These alterations in CYPs and specific genes involved in neurotransmission processes were found to be associated with the neurobehavioral changes and accumulation of the parent compound and its metabolites in brain of the exposed offsprings10111213. Rechallenge of the offsprings at adulthood (12 weeks) was found to produce greater magnitude of alterations in the xenobiotic CYPs and genes involved in neurotransmission processes1213.…”

“…However, significant effects are also identified at low doses. In this regard, long-lasting increases in the expression of xenobiotic metabolizing P450 enzymes in brain (Johri and others 2006; Singh and others 2013), impairment of the dopaminergic (Lazarini and others 2001) and muscarinic cholinergic system (Aziz and others 2001) in striatum and hippocampus, respectively, and morphological alterations in cerebellum (Kumar and others 2013) are described. These effects are associated with a number of behavior alterations including decreased locomotor activity (Johri and others 2006; Singh and others 2013), impaired motor coordination (Kumar and others 2013), reduced exploratory behavior (Gomes and others 1991; Singh and others 2013), impaired working memory (Aziz and others 2001) and increased depressive-like behavior (Lazarini and others 2001).…”

“…The dilatation of the lumen of sinusoids, infiltration of inflammatory cells, degeneration of hepatocytes, and increased levels of the LDH enzyme were evidenced in a study using deltamethrin in the dosage of 668 ppm (1/10 of the LD50) via intraperitoneal (Fetoui et al, 2009). The data suggest that prenatal exposure to low doses of pyrethroids has the potential of producing lasting effects on the expression of cytochrome P450 involved in the metabolism of xenobiotics in the brain and liver of offspring (Johri et al, 2006).…”
