“…Imayama et al 59 performed a long-term clinical and histologic study of CMN treated with normal mode ruby laser (NMRL) in 10 patients. 59 Malignant changes were absent from all studied nevi, but nevus cells remained, even in the nevi with good cosmetic results.…”

“…[56][57][58][59] Results have varied, with some giving cause for concern and others not. The relevance of these in vitro studies to actual real world human risk remains to be determined, because these studies used malignant cells instead of nevus cells.…”

“…The use of a normal-mode, long-pulse (0.3-1 millisecond) ruby laser at fluences of 10 to 20 J/cm 2 produced almost complete clearing of 2 giant congenital nevi and a congenital nevus of the eyelid after 4 treatment sessions with minimal adverse effects. 23 A longterm follow-up study 62 of 8 patients with congenital nevi treated with the normal-mode ruby laser examined histologically the treated sites at a mean of 4 years after treatment and revealed the presence of residual nevus cells in the dermis at approximately 1 mm below the skin surface. Above these cells, there was a subtle zone of fibroplasia that preserved the normal architecture of the papillary dermis and masked the residual nevomelanocytes.…”

“…In order to solve this problem, many studies have utilized ruby lasers in various combinations of different modes, including normal mode, QS mode, and long-pulsed mode. 5,[11][12][13][14][15] Some of these studies reported good results, although multiple treatment sessions were required.…”
