“…58 In addition, naturalistic cohort studies in Spain showed that PP1M and PP3M LAIs were associated with a lower risk of being prescribed with and using lower doses of benzodiazepines and antipsychotics compared with RLAI and AM. 59–61 These data are consistent with a large European multicentre cohort study including patients diagnosed with schizophrenia spectrum, schizoaffective, and bipolar disorders. 49 Although, the overall efficacy of paliperidone is not significantly different from that of other antipsychotics, some studies demonstrated that it may represent a more effective way in managing psychotic symptoms with aggressive behaviour compared to alternatives, which may in part explain the above findings.…”

“…if recorded could have provided useful information and allow evaluation of positive and negative predictors in response to treatment with LAIs and clinical diagnosis as shown in recently published work. 36 , 37 Nevertheless, information regarding prescription patterns can be informative in its own right, 38 and a useful stepped approach towards developing a comprehensive and inclusive registry regulated by governmental agencies. 39 Another advantage of this type of studies is that it minimises recruitment difficulties.…”

“…This is akin to previous reports detailing the occasional use of higher than recommended doses of PP1M and PP3 in clinical practice. [20][21][22] Interestingly, although the cohort of patients presented a moderate severity illness, measured by CGI-score, they required an oral antipsychotic therapy supplementation in most cases. Although high-dose prescribing of antipsychotic medication may often lead to worsening tolerability without necessarily any efficacy gains, recent evidence from meta-analysis advices caution in reducing the dose of antipsychotic during the maintenance treatment phase in schizophrenia below the optimal level used for acute stabilization because it may be associated with an increased risk of both relapse and treatment discontinuation.…”
