Logarithmic STDM watermarking using visual saliency‐based JND model

Abstract: Owing to the validity of measuring the visual visibility for image distortion, just noticeable distortion (JND) has been widely used in the quantisation-based watermarking framework. However, the existing JND model treats every region in the image with an equal attention level. Visual saliency, which reflects the visual attention, is proposed to improve the perceptual JND model. Based on the improved model, a logarithmic spread transform dither modulation (STDM) watermarking scheme is proposed. Simulations sho… Show more

“…Three techniques serve as the ground work while developing our proposed scheme. The works in [20] and [22] employed the bottom-up features of luminance and texture only. The basic luminance and texture features lead to acceptable accuracy in VS model, however, it is too simple to achieve more accurate visual saliency.…”

“…The work followed the spectral residual [21] to estimate the saliency map. Moreover, Wan et al [22] utilized the luminance and texture features to obtain the saliency, which can be associated with the Watson's JND model. The obtained saliency-induced JND model was then used to adjust the watermarking quantization step.…”

“…After that, Niu et al [20] proposed utilizing visual attention to modulate JND profile and guide watermark embedding. In 2015, Wan et al [21] proposed a logarithmic STDM watermarking using a VS-based JND model. Recently, Wang et al [22] proposed a novel STDM watermarking using a VS-based JND model.…”

“…When the distortion is less than the human sensitivity threshold, the human eye is imperceptible [3]. In recent years, the JND model has received wide attention in the aspects of video image encoding [4] [5], digital watermarking [6], image quality evaluation [7] and so on. At present, several JND models have been proposed: the JND model based on pixel domain and the JND model based on transform domain.…”
