Literature Review of Digital Twins Applications in Construction Workforce Safety

For many decades, safety has been a challenge in the construction sector. Despite extensive efforts to improve overall safety, the sector’s casualty rate still remains high. In practice, dynamic and complex construction processes may lead to on-site risks and safety plans being overlooked, likely leading to a variety of safety accidents. Nowadays, under the guidance of the digital twins (DT) concept, the advent of state-of-the-art sensing and visualisation technologies has offered the possibility to improve construction health and safety in the workplace. To understand the research advances of these technologies, identify their gaps and challenges, and propose solutions to further advance the industry’s safety, we conducted and report a thorough review on the state-of-the-art technological studies, and elaborate upon the key findings in detail. For instance, despite DT being proven to be effective in improving construction workforce safety, the construction industry has yet to fully exploit and streamline these innovations in practice. Overall, this review provides insights into technological clustering, improvement strategies, as well as workforce safety, which can benefit from formulating effective digital technology paradigms.

PurposeBased on the typical service supply chain (SSC) structure, the authors construct the model of e-tailing SSC to explore the coordination relationship in the supply chain, and big data analysis provides realistic possibilities for the creation of coordination mechanisms.Design/methodology/approachAt the present stage, the e-commerce companies have not yet established a mature SSC system and have not achieved good synergy with other members of the supply chain, the shortage of goods and the greater pressure of express logistics companies coexist. In the case of uncertain online shopping market demand, the authors employ newsboy model, applied in the operations research, to analyze the synergistic mechanism of SSC model.FindingsBy analyzing the e-tailing SSC coordination mechanism and adjusting relevant parameters, the authors find that the synergy mechanism can be implemented and optimized. Through numerical example analysis, the authors confirmed the feasibility of the above analysis.Originality/valueBig data analysis provides a kind of reality for the establishment of online SSC coordination mechanism. The establishment of an online supply chain coordination mechanism can effectively promote the efficient allocation of supplies and better meet consumers' needs.

Presently, environmental management for companies emphasizing environmental protection has become one of the most critical issues for customers, shareholders, governments, employees, competitors, and global pressures requiring organizations to produce environmentally-friendly products and services. This challenge has created a new concept called green supply chain management in business, which combines environmental thinking with the supply chain. Selection of suppliers by considering risk criteria is a category that has attracted the attention of a large number of researchers in order to select the best suppliers according to uncertain factors. In this research, we aim to select a green supplier considering risk factors using a new MCDM approach under uncertainty. For this selection problem, HF-MAIRCA, a new multicriteria sorting method for many alternatives, has been developed. This is used for sorting the alternatives into predefined, ordered supplier categories. This sorting method can be applied to different environmental problems that have a large number of alternatives. As a result of Iran’s case study, the result shows that materials flexibility and materials quality are essential criteria for green supplier selection.
