“…Masks are arguably a low-cost, high-impact strategy to mitigate transmission of SARS-Cov-2 among children both within and outside of school settings. Mask use is mandated in indoor settings including schools, in many jurisdictions across the US ( Guzman-Cottrill et al, 2021 ) and Canada ( Government of Canada, 2021 ), yet children spend a good proportion of their time engaged in activities where health policies cannot easily be enforced, e.g., during sports and leisure activities, recess, play dates, on route to and from school. In such instances, where there is less systematic oversight, wearing masks might be the only reliable strategy to prevent COVID-19 transmission when physical distancing is not possible.…”
