Allicin has been well documented to exhibit a wide spectrum of biological activities, especially lipid-lowering activity, as a promising candidate for the management of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NALFD). However, the mechanisms underlying the therapeutic effects of allicin require further investigation. It is tempting to think of combining network pharmacology and experimental validation to investigate the mechanism by which allicin ameliorates lipid metabolism disorder in HepG2 cells. We established a cell model of hepatic steatosis induced by PA to investigate the antisteatotic effects of allicin. The studies showed that allicin reduced PA-induced lipid accumulation using Nile red staining and TC and TG assays. Then, 219 potential targets of allicin were successfully predicted by PharmMapper. According to Reactome Pathway Analysis, 44 potential targets related to lipid metabolism were screened out. Molecular signaling cascades mediated by allicin included PPARA, PPARG, FABP4, and FABP6 by cytoHubba and qPCR analysis. Results revealed that allicin activated the gene expression of PPARA and FABP6 and suppressed the gene expression of FABP4 and PPARG. Thus, the present study united the methods of network pharmacology and experimental validation to investigate the protein targets of allicin on PA-induced lipid metabolism disorders to supply a reference for related application for the first time.

A strongly interacting plasma of linearly dispersing electron and hole excitations in two spatial dimensions (2D), also known as a Dirac fluid, can be captured by relativistic hydrodynamics and shares many universal features with other quantum critical systems. We propose a one-dimensional (1D) model to capture key aspects of the 2D Dirac fluid while including lattice effects and being amenable to non-perturbative computation. When interactions are added to the Dirac-like 1D dispersion without opening a gap, we show that this kind of irrelevant interaction is able to preserve Fermi-liquid-like quasi-particle features while relaxing a zero-momentum charge current via collisions between particle-hole excitations, leading to resistivity that is linear in temperature via a mechanism previously discussed for large-diameter metallic carbon nanotubes. We further provide a microscopic lattice model and obtain numerical results via density-matrix renormalization group (DMRG) simulations, which support the above physical picture. The limits on such fast relaxation at strong coupling are of considerable interest because of the ubiquity of bad metals in experiments.

Within the ultimate goal of classifying universality in quantum many-body dynamics, understanding the relation between out-of-equilibrium and equilibrium criticality is a crucial objective. Models with power-law interactions exhibit rich well-understood critical behavior in equilibrium, but the out-of-equilibrium picture has remained incomplete, despite recent experimental progress. We construct the rich dynamical phase diagram of free-fermionic chains with power-law hopping and pairing and provide analytic and numerical evidence showing a direct connection between nonanalyticities of the return rate and zero crossings of the string order parameter. Our results may explain the experimental observation of so-called accidental dynamical vortices, which appear for quenches within the same topological phase of the Haldane model, as reported by Fläschner et al. [Nat. Phys. 14, 265 (2018)]. Our work is readily applicable to modern ultracold-atom experiments, not least because state-of-the-art quantum gas microscopes can now reliably measure the string order parameter, which, as we show, can serve as an indicator of dynamical criticality.
