“…Some of the usable values of the river and valleys were already being slowly incorporated in some large cities along the Vistula, for example in Cracow, Warsaw, Toruń and Tczew. These examples could be used as a reference to create various projects and social actions in cooperation with both local authorities and non‐governmental organizations. The results of the study on the perception of a river could help policy‐makers at local, regional and national levels to establish (a) directions for environmental policy for cities and districts at river banks (see, e.g., Adolfsson Jörby ; Chan, ; Ite, ; Dempsey et al . ; Peris et al ., ; Martin and Rice, ) and (b) definition and range of education for sustainable development.…”

I denna fallstudie står dock den sociala dimensionen i fokus, med särskild vikt på fattigdoms-och hälsorelaterade aspekter.…”

“…Nevertheless, it proved difficult to maintain the leadership of municipalities with only a minimum of support from the national government. Eckerberg and Forsberg (1998), Adolfsson-Jörby (2000, and Eckerberg and Dahlgren (2007) analyzed the Swedish experience. The authors believe that long-term lasting LA21 depends on the success of municipal cross-sectoral institutionalization of sustainable development and on interaction between a bottom-up and top-down approach.…”

“…-lack of autonomy of municipalities associated with the disposability of resources and environmental, economic, and social competences. Adolfsson-Jörby (2000; and Eckeberg and Dahlgren (2007) stress this variable when analyzing the case of Sweden. Joas et al (2007) associated a high level of autonomy with successful implementation of LA21.…”
