“…Previous chemical investigation on Lobophytum species resulted in the identification of various cembranoid diterpenes and several steroids, glycolipids, and alkaloids; some of which showed cytotoxic and anti-inflammatory activities (Uchio et al, 1981;Chang et al, 2000;Radhika et al, 2004;Muralidhar et al, 2005;Chao et al, 2007;Fattorusso et al, 2008;Cheng et al, 2009). In continuation of our search for bioactive products from Vietnamese marine organisms (Dang et al, 2007;Minh et al, 2007aMinh et al, , 2007bMinh et al, , 2008Tung et al, 2009), the present study on the soft coral Lobophytum sp.…”

“…The first member of the zoanthamine-type alkaloid was isolated from Zoanthus sp. [69,70], followed by a series of analogs isolated from the genus Zoanthus , with the single exception of zooxanthellamine, which was isolated from the unicellular dinoflagellate Symbiodinium sp. [71].…”

“…Soft corals belonging to the genus Lobophytum (class Coelenterata, subclass Octocorallia, and family Alcyonaceae) are a source of macrocycliccembrane-type diterpenes and their cyclised derivatives, germacrenediterpene, steroids (Cheng et al 2008;Lu et al 2010;Hegazy et al 2011;Minh et al 2011;Govindam et al 2012) and zoanthamine-type alkaloids (Fattorusso et al 2008). Some of these metabolites have been shown to exhibit significant cytotoxic activity against the growth of various cancer cell lines (Cheng et al 2008Hegazy et al 2011;Quang et al 2011) as well as anti-inflammatory (Chao et al 2008;Lin et al 2009;Lin et al 2009;Lu et al 2010;Quang et al 2011) and/or antioxidant activity report on chemical constituents of the species Lobophytum lobophytum which has not been previously chemically characterised.…”
