Hasanuddin University Lake in Indonesia is a water tourism destination that offers natural beauty and comfort. In addition, the lake functions as an important scientific development park for the university. Even though its location is on campus, the surroundings of the campus are residential areas and various life activities. Recently, weed growth has occurred, which could be an indication of contamination and may hinder its useful function. Therefore, this study investigates the physicochemical quality of water, the pollution index, and its monitoring, attempting to make the campus lake continue to function sustainably. The research was carried out at the peak of the dry and rainy seasons, with laboratory examinations based on standard methods for quality parameters that follow lake use function standards. The results showed that most of the water quality parameters measured needed to meet the required quality standards. Based on the scoring results using the water pollution index method, lake water is classified as lightly to moderately polluted, which requires protection. The monitoring method is prepared with the addition of a biological indicator system. In line with that, intensification of the diversity of greenery around the lake and environmental management in an integrated manner with the surrounding settlement. The conclusion is that there is a need for complementary monitoring between physicochemical and biological methods and management coordination with the surrounding territories.

Monitoring water sources is essential to ensure the quality and quantity, one of which is in the Titab Reservoir. The purpose of the study was to assess the water quality and amount of pollution in the Titab reservoir in terms of physical, chemical, and microbiological characteristics, as well as the NVC of Tawes (Barbonymus gonionotus) fish. There are five station points for water sampling and 10 test parameters related to water quality. Data analysis compares test results with second-class water quality standards (Bali Governor Regulation No. 16/2016), IP value (pollution index), and NVC with Furton's equation. The test results obtained that the water in the Titab reservoir has a temperature of 28.97oC, TSS (0.18 mg/L), pH (8.82), BOD (3.22 mg/L), COD (16.70 mg/L), DO (6.77 mg/L), Total Phosphate (0.12 mg/L), Nitrate (0.19 mg/L) and Fecal Coliform (960 MPN/100 mL), the IP value was 1.39, and the NVC was 1.65. Thus, the pH, BOD, and Fecal Coliform levels of the Titab reservoir water did not match the specified limits, although the other parameters satisfied the water quality norms. The Titab reservoir's water is classed as mildly contaminated with the NVC value of tawes fish, referring to the Titab reservoir's polluted water. Sustainable Design of an Artificial Lake in Jafer Basin Based on Gravity Flow

Jordan is a dry country which badly needs water bodies. This work proposes a design of a sustainable artificial lake in Jafer basin (JB). The design involves excavating a tunnel to connect Gulf of Aqaba (GoA) and JB, and building a pumping station at the end of the tunnel. The tunnel will have a downslope gradient to allow gravity flow of seawater from GoA to JB. Once the water arrives underneath JB, a series of pumps along an inclined shaft uplift the water into the basin creating an artificial Lake, with total water volume of 2,000 Million Cubic Meters (MCM). The time required to fill up the basin is three years. The tunnel diameter is 3 meters and the depth of the tunnel and the shaft is 1000 m. 2% of the lake surface will be covered by Photovoltaic (PV) panels to produce electricity for pumping and to reduce evaporation rate. The total investment cost is 10.1 B$ (Billion Dollar) spent over three years, after that, all the pumping power needed to counteract evaporation is provided by PV panels. Once completed, the project is expected to pay back by encouraging human settlement, tourism, agriculture and industry.
