Load-Displacement Assessment of One-Way Reinforced Concrete (RC) Slabs Externally Strengthened Using CFRP Strips under Blast Loads

Abstract: Dynamic behaviour of Reinforced Concrete (RC) structures can be assessed using a Single-Degree-of-Freedom (SDOF) approach. Such a method is highly dependent on the resistance curve of the structure which is generally represented by a bilinear elasto-perfectly-plastic approximation. This approximation might lead to erroneous results when it refers to the use of externally bonded Fibre Reinforced composites for flexural capacity upgrade of Reinforced Concrete (RC), mainly when the concrete-to-FRP interface failu… Show more

“…The use of fibre reinforced polymers (FRP) in other construction methods, such as reinforced concrete, has been a first choice for strengthening elements under blast loading (Mourão, 2020;Mourão et al, 2018). Its potential to strengthening timber elements was investigated by Lacroix and Doudak (Lacroix and Doudak, 2020a, 2020b, 2022Lacroix and Doudak, 2018a, 2018b, 2018cLacroix and Doudak, 2020a, 2020b, 2022.…”

“…Throughout history, the examination of the repercussions of explosions on buildings, crucial structural elements, and individuals has primarily been a concern for the military or industrial sectors. This is due to the considerable risks involved and the stringent regulations regarding the handling and detonation of explosive products [1][2][3]. In modern times, the need for research and development in impact resistance and blast mitigation for engineering structures has become crucial due to various incidents such as accidental explosions, deliberate blasts, and detonations that occur in both civilian and military environments.…”
