With the rapid development of Information Communication Technology (ICT), the traditional networksare facing tremendous challenges. In recent years, the network security has been constantlyaffected by various factors (e.g., the damages of natural disaster, network intrusion, and limitedproperties of network). It is urgent to make some appropriate adjustments for current network architecture.Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Information-Centric Networking (ICN) bringinnovation, speediness in recovery and reconfiguration for network computing. SDN decouples theforwarding plane from controlling plane, thus moving the control logic from a node to the centralcontroller for the real-time supervision. ICN separates the resources from the location, to make thehost-oriented model transform into content-centric model, which promotes the utilization of networkresources and relieves the explosive growth of network flow. In this paper, we present a novel safetynetwork model by applying SDN and ICN to the network recovery and reconfiguration. The proposedmodel prevents the network congestion and monitors the network status in real time. Thesystem can be quickly restored after being damaged, which improves the network survivability. Weconsidered three scenarios (natural disaster, malicious damage, and system self-defect) to discuss theproposed model. We simulated the situation where system was damaged and calculated the recoverytime. The simulation results show that recovery time of system is shorter in the proposed model thanin traditional network. Finally, we explore the broader perspectives for the network security.

The traditional networks are facing difficulties in managing the services offered by cloud computing, big data, and the Internet of Things as the users have become more dependent on their services. Software-Defined Networking (SDN) has pulled enthusiasm in the integration process of technologies and function as per the user's requirements for both academia and industry, and it has begun to be embraced in actual framework usage. The emergence of SDN has given another idea to empower the focal programmability of the system. Because of the increasing demand and the scarcity of resources, the load balancing issue needs to be addressed efficiently to manage the incoming traffic and resources and to improve network performance. One of the most critical issues is the role of the controller in SDN to balance the load for having a better Quality of Service (QoS). Though there are few survey articles written on load balancing, there is no detail and systematic review conducted in load balancing in SDN. Hence, this paper extends and reviews the discussion with a taxonomy of current emerging load balancing techniques in SDN systematically by categorizing the techniques as conventional and artificial intelligence-based techniques to improve the service quality. The review also includes the study of metrics and parameters which have been used to measure the performance. This review would allow gaining more information on load balancing approaches in SDN and enables the researchers to fill the current research gaps.

Software‐defined networking (SDN) is a modern approach for current computer and data networks. The increase in the number of business websites has resulted in an exponential growth in web traffic. To cope with the increased demands, multiple web servers with a front‐end load balancer are widely used by organizations and businesses as a viable solution to improve the performance. In this paper, we propose a load‐balancing mechanism for SDN. Our approach allocates web requests to each server according to its response time and the traffic volume of the corresponding switch port. The centralized SDN controller periodically collects this information to maintain an up‐to‐date view of the load distribution among the servers, and incoming user requests are redirected to the most appropriate server. The simulation results confirm the superiority of our approach compared to several other techniques. Compared to LBBSRT, round robin, and random selection methods, our mechanism improves the average response time by 19.58%, 33.94%, and 57.41%, respectively. Furthermore, the average improvement of throughput in comparison with these algorithms is 16.52%, 29.72%, and 58.27%, respectively.
