LncRNAs: Emerging Biomarkers in Gastric Cancer

Abstract: Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) recently have been recognized as having a critical role in cancer development and progression. Gastric cancer remains a major clinical challenge worldwide owing to poor prognosis and limited treatment options. Accumulating studies have demonstrated that lncRNAs may play an active role in tumorigenesis, metastasis, prognosis and drug resistance of gastric cancer. Here, we collect recent knowledge to show differential expression of lncRNA in gastric cancer and their underlying mecha… Show more

“…Given their cell-specific expression, lncRNAs have been described as potential biomarkers in various cancers types such as gastric [72], lung [73], prostate [74], and hepatocellular carcinoma [75]. Similarly, several lncRNAs have been identified as potential biomarkers in cells with different OC histotypes, where their expressions levels are altered.…”

“…Increasing studies have revealed that lncRNAs have important influence in tumorigenesis, metastasis, and prognosis and drug resistance of gastric cancer [1]. While the functional role and molecular mechanism of many GCassociated lncRNAs remain undetermined, recent studies revealed that several lncRNAs are associated with GC progression, such as H19, FENDRR, and MRUL [14][15][16].…”

“…GC is one of the prominent cancers with high morbidity and mortality in developing countries and half of the world total occurs in eastern Asia (mainly in China). The rate of GC has dropped greatly over the last half-century in most developed western countries, but has not decreased in East Asia [1,2]. Deeper understanding of the molecular mechanism of GC will provide novel insights into its pathogenesis.…”

“…Therefore, further studies on GC tissues from endoscopic biopsy may aid in establishing the associations between lncRNAs and GC. Previous studies have identified a subset of lncRNAs that are associated with GC, indicating their wide participation in the development and progression of GC (13,14). However, the biological functions and mechanisms of these lncRNAs remain unexplored (11).…”
