lncRNA SNHG5 is associated with poor prognosis of bladder cancer and promotes bladder cancer cell proliferation through targeting p27

Abstract: Abstract. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been identified as critical regulators in tumorigenesis. In our present study, we measured the level of small nucleolar RNA host gene 5 (SNHG5) in bladder cancer (BC) tissues and cell lines, and the correlation of the level of SNHG5 with clinicopathological features and prognosis of BC patients was analyzed. Reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction was performed to determine the level of SNHG5 in the BC tissues and cell lines. The Kaplan-Meier m… Show more

“…It is found that in the rat model of epilepsy, the over autophagy and apoptosis of hippocampal neurons can be antagonism by downregulation of lncRNA MALAT1, thus protecting the hippocampus of rats . LncRNA H19 has been reported to promote the apoptosis of hippocampal neurons by inhibiting let‐7b . LncRNA UCA1 inhibits seizures and brain damage caused by epilepsy by modulating the miR‐495/Nrf2‐ARE signaling pathway …”

“…SNHG5 consists of six exons and two nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs) on human chromosome 6q14.3 [13]. The abnormal expression of SNHG5 has been found in many human cancers, such as bladder cancer, gastric cancer and colorectal cancer [14][15][16]. However, there are no reports on the molecular mechanism of SNHG5 in glioma.…”

“…LncRNAs have been also confirmed to regulate the progression of cancers by sponging miRNA [ 24 , 25 ]. Currently, lncRNA small nucleolar RNA host gene 5 (SNHG5) has been found to act as a tumor-promoting gene in bladder cancer and colorectal cancer [ 26 , 27 ] and a suppressor gene in gastric cancer [ 28 ]. Moreover, SNHG5 can also modulate the progression of cancer by competitively binding to miRNA [ 29 ].…”

“…Moreover, SNHG5 can also modulate the progression of cancer by competitively binding to miRNA [ 29 ]. These studies show that SNHG5 plays a significant role in a variety of different cancers [ 26 28 , 30 – 32 ]. However, the function of SNHG5 in osteosarcoma remains unclear, thus driving us to explore the role of SNHG5 in OS.…”
