LncRNA NEAT1 is upregulated in recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) and has predictive values

Abstract: Background LncRNA NEAT1 promotes inflammatory responses, which contribute to recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS). This study focused on the involvement of NEAT1 in RAS. Methods RT-qPCR and ELISA were performed to determine the expression of NEAT1 and proinflammatory factors (IL-2, IL-1β, and TNF-α) in plasma from patients with a history of RAS and showing symptom (n = 80, S-RAS group), people with a history of RAS but showing no symptom (n = 80, NS… Show more

“…Notably, higher fibrinogen levels observed after anti‐inflammatory treatment persisted in patients with RAS compared to controls in our study. Other systemic inflammatory parameters, such as plasma TNF‐α levels, were also higher in patients with RAS 50 . Novak et al discovered elevated plasma TNF‐α during quiet systemic episodes in patients with BD 52 …”

“…Colchicine also significantly reduced white cell count in patients with RAS, 3,47 and the monocyte to HDL‐cholesterol ratio in BD 48 . Moreover, anti‐inflammatory drugs regulated immunoglobulin (IgG1, IgG2 and IgG4) proteome expression in BD 49 and decreased plasma and saliva IL‐6 and TNF‐α 42,50 in patients with RAS. TNF‐α antagonists, for instance infliximab, etanercept and adalimumab, have been shown to be effective in the treatment of RAS ulcers and recurrence reduction 51 …”

“…In line with our findings, Han et al discovered that plasma levels of NEAT1, IL-2, IL-1, and TNF-α were highest in symptomatic recurrent aphthous stomatitis patients before using colchicine in treatment. Patients with recurrent aphthous stomatitis treated with colchicine had significantly lower plasma levels of NEAT1, IL-2, IL-1, and TNF-α ( Han et al, 2021 ). As a result, NEAT1 is linked to the occurrence of BD, and changes in the plasma level of NEAT1 may be used as a prognostic marker to monitor therapeutic outcomes and predict recurrence of BD.…”

“…It is distinguished by various, more often-occurring oval-shaped ulcers with a yellowish pseudomembrane on the ulcer floor and an erythematous border [ 2 ]. With a 50% recurrence rate after three months, these ulcers can affect up to 25% of the general population [ 3 ]. The etiopathogenesis of this condition is still unknown; however, it is thought to be multifactorial.…”
