Liverwort and Hornwort Flora of Hoàng Liên National Park and the Adjacent Areas (North Vietnam, Indochina)

Abstract: The study of the flora located in the central part of the Hoàng Liên Sơn Range in the northern region of Indochina has revealed 279 species of liverwort and hornwort, 26 of which are newly reported for the flora of Vietnam. The uniqueness and peculiarity of the studied flora are explained by the significant altitudinal range in the area treated and its position in the contact zone of the Sikang-Yunnan floristic province of the East Asian Floristic Region with the Indochina Floristic Region. The checklist inclu… Show more

“…The new records we report coupled with predictions from species distribution modelling (Huang et al, 2022) suggest that this species is likely much more widely distributed in northern Laos than has been documented. The mountains of northern Vietnam and Laos are the southeasternmost extension of the Himalaya Range (Sterling et al, 2006) and exhibit considerable Himalayan biogeographic affinities (e.g., Spitzer et al, 1993; Bain and Truong, 2004; Sterling et al, 2006; Bakalin et al, 2018, 2023) that undoubtedly influence the success of the bee there. In contrast, further south in the Central Highland region of Vietnam, despite some Himalayan influences in the flora (e.g., Vuong and Sridith, 2016; Wu et al, 2023), several searches by C.H.…”

“…In addition, numerous small discoid gemmae are all around the lobe margin. It was known before only from the Central Highland of Lâm Đồng Province in southern Vietnam (Pócs et al 2013) and from the Hoang Lien Mountains in northern Vietnam (Bakalin et al 2023). It is known to be scattered from Java to Japan and Thailand (Yamada 1979).…”

“…Floral relationship analysis was carried out using detrended correspondence analysis (DCA), which is applicable for datasets of various sizes and has been tested by us several times for amphi-Pacific liverwort floras [26][27][28][29][30]. The material for the analysis was our compiled matrix (Supplementary Table S1) of the species composition of floras, which is a summary species distribution of the compared floras, where the presence of a species is marked with the number 1, and its absence with the number 0.…”
