Liver Disorders in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Abstract: Abnormal liver tests are frequent in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. These may occur at the time of diagnosis or throughout the course of the disease. There are multiple aetiologies, such as concomitant diseases and extraintestinal manifestations of the same disease, primary sclerosing cholangitis being the most characteristic. Other aetiologies include adverse reactions to the drugs used in the treatment of these patients. This review will evaluate the different causes of liver test abnormalities.
