Litorimonas taeanensis gen. nov., sp. nov., isolated from a sandy beach

Abstract: A heterotrophic, Gram-negative, prosthecate bacterium, designated strain G5 T , was isolated from a sandy beach of Taean in South Korea. Cells of strain G5T were aerobic, catalase-and oxidasepositive, straight to slightly curved motile rods with a single flagellum and formed yellow-orange colonies on agar. Growth occurred at 15-40 6C (optimum 25-30 6C) and pH 6-9 (optimum pH 7-8). The major cellular fatty acids were C 18 : 1 v7c, C 17 : 0 , C 16 : 0 , 11-methyl C 18 : 1 v7c, C 17 : 1 v8c and C 17 : 1 v6c. The … Show more

“…Recently, numerous microbial species have been isolated from sea tidal flats. Therefore, efforts have been made in our laboratory to isolate and characterize marine bacteria from sea tidal flats (Jin et al, 2011a, b;Jung et al, 2011;Lee et al, 2011;Park et al, 2011).In the course of this study, a novel yellow-pigmented, Gramstaining-negative, rod-shaped bacterium was isolated. Here, we describe its taxonomic characterization and propose a novel genus and species within the family Flavobacteriaceae.…”

“…Sea tidal flats are well known biological resources that play very important roles in restoration and nutrient recycling (Winberg et al, 2007;Jin et al, 2012;Math et al, 2012b). During the course of studies investigating microbial communities, we have characterized several bacterial community members from sea tidal flats (Kim et al, 2010a;Jin et al, 2011;Jung et al, 2011;Lee et al, 2011;Jeong et al, 2013;Math et al, 2012a). Here, we describe the taxonomic characterization of a member of the genus Defluviimonas, designated strain BS14 T , isolated from a tidal flat of the South Sea in Korea.…”

“…Following an oil spill in 2007 on tidal flats of the Taean coast on the South Korean Yellow Sea, we have sought to isolate micro-organisms from the contaminated tidal flat (Kim et al, 2010a;Jin et al, 2011;Jung et al, 2011;Lee et al, 2011;Math et al, 2012a, b). Until now, to the best of our knowledge, no members of Aquamicrobium have been isolated from marine habitats.…”
