Abstract:We present the results of particle-in-cell numerical simulations of one-dimensional, time dependent, fully relativistic double layers. We extend the scaling law for the layor width to relativistic potential drops and plasma temperatures. We also discuss quantitatively the layer creation and disruption cyclcs, as well as the beam-plasma instabilities driven by the layer. Relativistic double layers may be a mechanism to produce inknse radiation as observed in active galactic nuclei and pulsars, primarily by coll… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
