Lithium is the most frequently reported agent used in the maintenance of periodic catatonia, but even this evidence relies only on case reports and small case series ( Gjessing, 1967 ; Padhy et al, 2011 ; Petursson, 1976 ; Sato et al, 2020 ; Sovner and McHugh, 1974 ; Wald and Lerner, 1978 ).
