Literatura afro-brasileira: um processo de afirmação identitária e de resistência negra na poesia de Cuti

Abstract

The theoretical discussions about literature and Brazilian black identity have grown in recent decades. Scholars argue the existence of an African segment in Brazilian Literature. Defined as a project of broad discursive expression, this type of literature is constituted by works and authors identified with the African heritage, moving, simultaneously, in and out of Brazilian literature (Ianni, 1988; Duarte, 2008). In this sense, the present study aims to discuss the process of construction of the Afro-Brazilian literature and to point out its relevance in literary studies, considering Cuti's poetry as it highlights the categories of identity and black resistance. Therefore, we try to interpret the different approaches to resistance from the Afro-Brazilian point of view, considering a perspective of reframing stereotypes and other stagnate and negative black symbols, as a relevant part of the black identity affirmation process in Brazil.
