Liquid-Liquid Extraction of Uranium(VI) with Enanthic, Caprylic, Pelargonie Acids and their Binary Mixtures in Benzene

Abstract: Extraction / Uranium(VI) /Enanthic acid/ Caprylic acid / Pelargonie acid SummaryThe extraction of uranium(VI) into benzene containing enanthic, caprylic and pelargonic acid (HR) 2 has been carried out. Basing on slope analysis, the extracted species are found to be U0 2 R 2 (HR) 2 . The extraction efficiencies of the extradants enanthic (heptanoic), caprylic (octanoic) and pelargonic (nonanoic) acids in the extraction of U(VI) have been compared. The influence of various parameters such as equilibrium pH, extr… Show more

“…Based on the standard theory of transportation of anions and cations, in solvent extraction the ionic metals are separated due to the variation of chemical potentials among two immiscible phases: organic and aqueous phases. Choice of appropriate solvent is a challenge for the researcher by determining several factors like price, solvating power, chemical strength and selectivity for extraction [3][4][5]. The familiar extractants tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP), methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK), methyl isopropyl ketone (MIPK), methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) and di isobutyl ketone (DIBK) are mainly used for separation and purification of rare earth and nuclear reactor materials.…”

“…There is no work reported for Am (III) alone or in presence of Pu (IV). The relatively inexpensive and readily available high molecular weight carboxylic acids are known to have great potential to extract a number of metal ions including rare-earths and actinides from different aqueous media [7][8][9][10][11]. Using cekanoic acid extraction of cobalt and manganese were reported [12].…”
