Liquid‐Liquid Extraction of Copper by Terdodecylthioglycolic Acid. Structures for the Extracted Species

Abstract

The extraction of Cu(II) from nitrate medium by dodecylthioglycolic acid and the influence of buffered medium on that extraction have been studied at 293 K. Distribution of the metal ion in a wide range of pH and carboxylic acid concentration has been measured. Experimental data, treated by a graphical method have been interpreted by assuming the presence in the organic phase of the species CuDTG 2 · HDTG 2 and CuDTGAc' HDTG 2 . Characterization and structure of the solid compounds isolated from the extract have been discussed on the basis of elemental analysis, thermal gravimetric analysis, IR spectra and measurement of magnetic susceptibility.
