Liquid Crystal Dimers

Abstract: A liquid crystal dimer is composed of molecules containing two conventional mesogenic groups linked via a¯exible spacer. These materials show quite different behaviour to conventional low molar mass liquid crystals and in particular their transitional behaviour exhibits a dramatic dependence on the length and parity of the¯exible spacer. In this review a comprehensive overview of the relationships between molecular structure and liquid crystallinity in dimers is provided. This includes a description of the nov… Show more

“…Thus, the present study will add some novel LC substances which can be useful to the researchers working in the field of Liquid crystals with different aims and objects. Thus, present study is aimed to synthesize novel LC substances to understand and establish the effects molecular structure [20,22] on LC properties and evaluated data; will be interpreted in terms of molecular rigidity and flexibility. “…[2,3,4,5,6,7]. Present proposed investigation is planned with a view to understand and establish the effect of molecular structure on thermo tropic LC properties [8,9,10,11] of laterally substitutedBr group at the middle phenyl ring as a consequence of molecular rigidity and flexibility [12,13,14,15]. Number of chalconyl ester homologous series have been reported till the date [16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23].…”

“…Thus, present investigation is planned with a views to understand and establish the effects of molecular structure [9,10,11,12] on thermotropic mesomorphism and to avail the novel chalconyl derivatives to the pharma and medicinal chemist for the study of antimicrobial activity in lyotropic condition for the benefit of mankind. Hence, chalconyl ester derivatives consisting of three phenyl rings bonded through -CH=CH-COO-and -CO-CH=CH-central groups and two flexible terminal end groups viz.…”
