Lipid Characterization of Chinese Wild Hazelnuts (<i>Corylus mandshurica</i> Maxim.)

Abstract: Introduction Hazelnut is one of the four major arboroid nuts in the world. There are about 20 species of hazelnuts, several species of hazelnuts such as C. America, C. avellana and C. colurna were widely cultivated in Asia, Europe and North America. Turkey is the world s leading producer of hazelnuts with a production of 400 000 tones, followed by European Union 145 000 tones , USA 37 200 tones and Azerbaijan 35 000 tones 1. In China, Hazelnut large area of cultivation is less, but there are wild varieties in … Show more

“…Lipids are generally stored as triacylglycerols and represent an essential carbon storage form in many angiosperm seeds. Up to 80% of the total dry matter in some storage organs, such as nuts, cashews and hazelnuts, is composed of lipids [ 50 , 51 ]. They are water insoluble and deposited in discrete oil bodies, predominantly within seed storage tissue and in certain fruits, such as avocados and olives [ 52 ].…”

“…γ-oryzanol Vitamin E is comprised of tocopherols Ts along with tocotrienols T3s . The α-, β-, γ-, and δforms of Ts and T3s were analyzed using HPLC system according to the procedure of AOCS Ce 8-89 16 and reference 18 . Oil samples 0.5 g were dissolved in hexane at 50 mg/mL and filtered through a 0.22 μm pore size nylon syringe filter.…”
