Full lips are considered youthful and attractive. Lip augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed today, especially in Caucasian populations. 1 Previous studies suggested that hyaluronic acid (HA) is an acceptable material for nonsurgical facial rejuvenation. 2 As living standards are improving, Chinese have paid increasing attention on to the facial rejuvenation. A recent consumer survey revealed that there is a gradual increase in Chinese consumer demand for lip augmentation. Regrettably, no injectable HA has been approved for lip augmentation in China till date.
Clinical trials of lip augmentation have previously been reportedfor non-Asian subjects. 3,4 However, no study has investigated the effectiveness of HA injection for lip augmentation in the Chinese population. Given esthetic differences, the technique and volume of injections may also differ across different populations. Therefore, the present study aimed to explore an appropriate injection technique that can be applied to Chinese.
