Linking Semantic 3D City Models with Domain-Specific Simulation Tools for the Planning and Validation of Energy Applications at District Level

Abstract: Worldwide, cities are nowadays formulating their own sustainability goals, including ambitious targets related to the generation and consumption of energy. In order to support decision makers in reaching these goals, energy experts typically rely on simulation models of urban energy systems, which provide a cheap and efficient way to analyze potential solutions. The availability of high-quality, well-formatted and semantically structured data is a crucial prerequisite for such simulation-based assessments. Unf… Show more

“…However, even if the semantic information is well integrated in such models, their usability in simulations is not straightforward: this kind of linkage is often studied by the actors in the field of 3D modelling and not simulation experts. The method of storage is not necessarily responsible (Widl, Agugiaro, and Peters-Anders 2021). One is proposing to review the way in which the information, recorded in a relational database, is accessed and thus linked to the simulation tools (Yao et al 2018).…”

“…Digitizing urban scenes is an important research problem in computer vision, computer graphics, and photogrammetry communities. Three-dimensional models of urban buildings have become the infrastructure for a variety of real-world applications such as visualization [1], simulation [2][3][4], navigation [5], and entertainment [6]. These applications typically require high-accuracy and compact 3D building models of large-scale urban environments.…”
