Linking Business Ecosystem and Natural Ecosystem Together—A Sustainable Pathway for Future Industrialization

Abstract: China has emerged as the second largest economy in the world during the globalization in the last forty years. However, in the last decade, Chinese manufacturing has also demonstrated its dark side causing wide range of concerns globally and directly jeopardize people’s health because of serious pollutions. How could the world keep its industrialization yet without damages to the natural environment? The paper proposes a new framework entitled ‘IE3’ by integrating three domains of knowledge—Industrial Entrepre… Show more

“…Additionally, innovation in times of crisis demonstrates features of collaboration beyond traditional supply chain and dynamic changes, which is consistent with the coevolution view of business ecosystems [8,35]. Findings show that, rather than a clear separation of inbound and outbound open innovation, coupled patterns with co-creation, digital platforms, and alliances are key to flexibility and resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic.…”

“…In light of this conceptual framework, we can affirm that, although smart and wise service systems respond to the logic of value co-creation and dynamic vitality in complex scenarios, the latter (wise configuration) better interprets the symbiotic configurations of natural networks, and therefore, artificial ones such as symbiotic reticular structures are integrated into web-based industrial platforms, in a way linking business ecosystem and natural ecosystem [45]. Wise symbiotic networks represent optimizing configurations of the processes of co-creation and win-win distributions of the value generated and produced by symbiotic relational synergies.…”

“…The literature review was conducted with a mixed procedure: in the first phase (bibliometric phase), the contributions specifically devoted to ICT platforms were identified in the Web of Science Core Collection within the vast scientific production on industrial symbiosis existing in the two macro-scientific areas of circular economy and industrial ecology. The query used was as follows: TOPIC: ("industrial symbiosis") AND TOPIC: In light of this conceptual framework, we can affirm that, although smart and wise service systems respond to the logic of value co-creation and dynamic vitality in complex scenarios, the latter (wise configuration) better interprets the symbiotic configurations of natural networks, and therefore, artificial ones such as symbiotic reticular structures are integrated into web-based industrial platforms, in a way linking business ecosystem and natural ecosystem [45]. “…The definition of "ecosystem" contemplates a multilateral set of partners, not necessarily hierarchically controlled [20], which interact in order to realize the core value proposition [22]. In other words, the ecosystem encompasses characteristics such as being complementarity [20,53] and actors' interdependence [22] that collaborate and coordinate their activities [20] to build an integrated industrial system focused on business [54].…”
