From the stylistic analysis of the film , it was shown that, contrary to Lightning McQueen, who was a speaker of standard Modern Greek, Mater employed a Northern rural accent of Greek (in the original English version, he used a Southern North American English accent), which was stigmatised, connoting peasantness, lack of education and innocence, echoing similar representations of Greek Northern rural accent in other Greek media as well (Archakis, Lampropoulou, Tsakona, & Tsami, 2014;Kourdis, 2004).
